Introduction
AchemAsia marks the start of the major push in China to catch up to Western markets in the fields of chemical engineering and biotechnology. The exhibition was held for the very first time in 1989 and has been instrumental in opening China to international investors and buyers. AchemAsia arrives every three years in Shanghai, China to packed halls at the National Exhibition & Convention Center. The international exhibition is typically held in the spring with editions at the start of April. AchemAsia prepares an involved technical programme and networking events across five days total. AchemAsia is brought to you by DECHEMA Ausstellungs-GmbH with the generous support from and coordination with the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC). The exhibition is one of the less frequent trade shows in China with editions held only once every three years. Only trade professionals are admitted entry. The National Exhibition & Convention Center is an excellent location in Shanghai close to an airport and well connected to public transport. The easiest way to get to the exhibition centre is via metro, which runs through the entire city. There’s also ample parking suitable for cars and larger transportation such as buses and shuttles.

Time to discuss the numbers. Last edition recorded 330 exhibitors representing 16 countries and a total of 10,000 trade visitors. It’s also important to note just how international the exhibition is. A third of all exhibitors are foreign nationals, coming from Germany, India, Great Britain, Taiwan, Mexico, Italy, Japan and South Korea. Out of all visitors, 66% are from industry sectors followed by trade, university and research, and miscellaneous fields.
