Paris Air Show

The aerospace industry's prime business hub

Nobody will bring the action, showmanship, and adrenaline like Paris Air Show – the international trade show for aerospace, aircraft and aviation that has been going on for over a century.

Yes, the first edition of the air show (also referred to as Salon International de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace or SIAE for short in its native French) first took to the skies in 1909, when aviation existed more as a novelty than a real industry.

Now the Paris Air Show is one of the chief platforms for business negotiations and innovations in Europe and the world. The event combines live demonstrations with purely networking events where experts, decision makers and major buyers mingle.

In terms of product categories, visitors are able to see 140 aircraft and oversee the latest in aircraft engines, aerospace power plants, related equipment, cabin interior, pilot aids, subcontracting, aircraft construction, helicopters, defense technology, satellite communication systems, space research, space vehicles.

Paris Air Show has been a fixture of modern Paris’ cultural calendar since the dawn of last century and in that time has been staged every two years with editions falling on odd years. The show runs for a week at the start of summer usually in late June. Because it’s an air show it needs the right facilities, so the organisers, Salons Internationaux de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace, located it at Le Bourget airport in Paris.

Everyone is welcome to come whether they are aviation professionals or members of the public. I admit trade visitors between 08:30 am until 18:00 pm every single day, while the public are admitted only on Friday through to Sunday.

Le Bourget is an active airport, so it’s well-connected to the city and the rest of France through train lines, the metro, RER and three separate bus lines.

Paris Air Show, despite its long history, shows no signs of slowing down and marks improvement in its attendance rates every edition. Last edition saw the participation of over 2500 exhibitors that represented 49 countries. We also have to mention the high number of start-ups also present – 150.

The audience swelled to over 316,000 visitors – these include the general public and professionals. We then have 176,000 of those from the general public and 139,000 of those being trade visitors. The biggest market present is of course the European with 66% of all visitors, which is followed then by North America, Asia and the Middle East. If we’re to break down the background of all trade visitors, we see presence from the service sector, aircraft sector, subcontracting, maintenance and the space sectors.

What you can expect as an exhibitor?

  • Paris Air Show is good for business. You can expect a quick return on your investment and a solid profit. Organisers reveal that last edition saw the accumulated worth of all signed contracts to reach 140 billion dollars. You definitely want a percentage of these winnings;
  • The exhibition and air show also benefits from governmental clout. It’s been a tradition to have the French President open the show, and most recently this honour was bestowed to Emmanuel Macron. We also have to point out that prime ministers have also been part of the proceedings, alongside other politicians and officials;
  • Countries in the AED, GCC, G5 sahel, NATO, UN, EU and OCCAR all regularly send an official delegation, which include foreign ministers, chiefs of staff, vice ministers and so much more – the perfect pool of powerful people to add to your professional network and all of them are in one place.

Paris Air Show 2023

The visiting group included 130,000 trade and 170,000 public attendees (43% of the professionals were from abroad). Furthermore, the event included 300 start-up companies from 21 nations and 322 official delegations from over 100 nations. The delegations featured 222 defence/Institutional members, among them 39 Ministers/Secretaries and 54 Chiefs of Staff, and 100 civilian specialists. 1,850 journalists from 75 nations attended the event to provide media exposure.
